The University of Chicago has transitioned from the Payroll Verification Reporting (PVR) process to Huron’s Employee Compensation Compliance (ECC) system. ECC, part of the Huron Research Suite, is designed to streamline communication and reduce administrative burden.
The system ensures that payroll charges are accurate, that employees are paid from the correct funding sources, and that payments are certified in compliance with federal and institutional requirements.
As part of this process, Principal Investigators (PIs) are responsible for certifying payroll for individuals working on their sponsored projects.
Why the change?
The former PVR process was highly manual. ECC provides a more efficient and reliable solution by allowing project statements to be reviewed in real time, with data refreshed nightly from Workday and Oracle. This enables timely identification and correction of payroll issues before year-end certification, ensuring greater accuracy and reducing administrative risk.
